Man jailed for possession of sub machine gun

A 31-year-old man has been jailed for owning a sub machine gun after he was arrested in connection with a Stoke Newington robbery.

On Thursday 24 January, Jermaine Kwantreng, 31, of Duncome Hill, pleaded guilty to possessing ammunition without a certificate, possessing a prohibited weapon, a MAC 10 sub machine gun, and possessing a firearm without a certificate.

He was found not guilty of a robbery offence.

On Tuesday 31 January 2012 Jermain Kwantreng was arrested by officers from Hackney on suspicion of committing a robbery on January 30 in Tatton Crescent, N16.

Following his arrest officers from Hackney's Serious Acquisitive Crime Unit, conducted a search at Kwabtreng's home. The gun and ammunition were found in a bag at the bottom of a washing machine, full of dry clothes.

DC Bradley Sim, said: "This is an excellent result as this weapon and ammunition could have the potential to cause death or serious injury."

Kwantreng's has been jailed for five years. He was sentenced to five years for possession of a prohibited firearm; 16 months concurrent for possession of 23 rounds of ammunition; and 16 months concurrent for possessing a firearm without a certificate.
