The first time I came to the Fat Cat Cafe, I arrived a while before the friend I was meeting, so, after ordering a hot chocolate, I had to go through the whole rigmarole of pretending to be on my phone a lot, and reminding myself that it's not that weird to go to a cafe by oneself. While I was waiting with the lovely hot chocolate, one of the staff brought me over a jug of water 'just for if I wanted it'. Now this probably doesn't seem like much, but it told me a lot about how the Fat Cat's staff approach their establishment. Unbusinesslike, in the best possible way. (Ironic, considering what the phrase catlike COULD imply). These aren't people who have been trained to be friendly. They're just friendly. And that's lovely. The coconut flapjacks are excellent too.

such a lovely warm cafe with the freindliest staff, to people and their dogs, always happy to bring over some water (a bottle for you AND a bowl for your dog) with big smiles, which is a lovely touch as always thirsty after long walk through the park or cemetary. food is freshly made to order, lovely coffee, delicious cakes and an interesting selection of soft drinks i have yet to try. open quite late, and just a brilliant place to chill out. thanks guys!!
I've been here a couple of times now and it's much nicer than I thought it would be for some reason. I think it's part of a small chain although you wouldn't guess that from being in there as it has a very local, independent air to it. The best thing about this place is the staff: the first time I went in there was a woman behind the counter and she was really lovely and went out of her way to help. Last time we visited, last week, there was a guy who was even more charming. My friend and I had sat outside on the assumption that the place was dog free (not putting ourselves down there - we had her pooch with us). The weather was awful but we figured we had no choice and so he came out to serve us and we went inside to order etc but we drank our yummy hot chocolate and ate our consistantly delicious cupcakes (try the banoffee) through gales. After about 45mins - when we'd finished - the chap came out and, having realised we were out there because of the dog, told us we could come in. It ended up being pretty comical in the end as we were ready to leave having endured c rap weather (not in bad moods, just accepting that life with a dog can be pretty cold), and he was so apologetic having not told us to come in earlier. We did go in eventually and ordered yet more yumminess. The customers were all chatty and lovely and the guy continued to be apologetic and friendly. I will be returning, with the troublesome dog, for sure.
