Now, we have all been in that position when you have entered a fancy restaurant with a partner or a group of friends had a bit too much of the red stuff and way too much of the fine cuisine.

The waiter strolls over holding with pride the rather large figured receipt kindly placed in a small folded leather wallet and hands you the present. Your eyes skim through the breakdown of food and wine and then you get a smack in the chops when you see the final total.

Well for one Stoke Newington man this happened on a few occasions, but instead of accepting that you must pay for what you consume he decided to just leave without paying.

Janis Nords, 27, of Princess May Road, Stoke Newington has been charged with three counts of making off without payment at three exclusive London eateries.

Racking up a whopping £1,021 bill at L’Oranger in St James’s Street, £349 at the Glass House, Richmond and total of £965 in the Connaught Hotel. These incidents are alleged to have taken place between October 14 and November 15.

A woman in her 20’s was also arrested in Stoke Newington, but later released without charge.

The man is due before Camberwell green magistrates later in the year.

Now these are some impressive totals. Can anyone get close to them? I think the most I have accumulated was £80 a head for a group of four. I had a very sore headache the next morning.

Most I've ever spent is £75 without booze. You've gotta drink a lot of something yummy to hit £1,020 in one sitting, wow!
