Whether you like it or not, Christmas is fast approaching and for those of you that are unfortunate enough to organise a Christmas Party. Whether it is for a group of work colleagues or a collection of friends and family, here at Stoke Newington People we have collated a list of ideas for some local venues to hold your festive celebrations.

what a cracker
Now in my opinion you cannot beat the informal gathering at your local pub, this rewards the non-organised of us that like meeting up with people but do not want the hassle or commitment to stay in one place all night. We recommend two establishments for this type of party.
The Daniel Defoe, 102 Church Street, is a classic example of a watering hole not trying to be anything apart from a decent pub. A big plus point this time of year is the outdoor space located at the rear of the building, a large decked area with really good heaters makes being outdoors a pleasure during the winter months.
The Defoe has a good variety of beers and ciders, with some good spirits chucked in for good measure. Go to our users review page to see what the locals say about this place.
Another fine public house is the White Hart 69, Stoke Newington High Street. A huge, dark pub that attempts the difficulty of catering for too many differing crowds in one hit. But to be fair it does a pretty good job of it. For the drinkers out there the ales (so I’m told) are pretty good and there are a fair selection of lagers and ciders. You rarely have to wait for a drink at the bar as staff are plentiful, without looking like they have nothing to do.
Now, if it is more a sit down type of thing you are after many local restaurants can cater for large groups or have specially created menus designed for those on a Christmas meal.
Alistair's Brasserie in Stoke Newington has genuinely quirky appeal. From its original stained glass windows to its flocked wallpaper, slate floors and inventive home-cooked meals, this little neighbourhood gem is a fixture on the Stoke Newington dining scene and is located on Church Street.
Yum Yum Thai on 187 Stoke Newington High Street, can cater for large groups with a vast menu of dishes large and small, delicate and robust, mild and spicy alike. With its superb menu, quality service and lovely décor, it’s little surprise that Yum Yum Thai has bagged a raft of awards and has become a local restaurant that Londoners cross town to visit.
During the day Clicia is a value for money N16 café but by night it transforms in the flick of a switch into a very popular restaurant renowned for its down to earth relaxed feel. With old mirrors and picture frames casting the low lighting projected from a variety of pretty lamps, Clicia offers a Mediterranean menu of fish, grill, meze and vegetarian dishes that fill your stomach with that home cooked feeling.
If going out is not your plan, why not pop down to 103 Church Street and see the fantastic selection at Clissold Wines or stroll to Intercontinental Wines and Foods 209-211 Stoke Newington High Street.
What ever you are doing, have fun and enjoy yourself. Then post some comments in the box below with what you get up to.

Would just like to say that I frequent Clicia far too often.... (is that possible?!)
And it is quality, will definitely drive passed and see if there is a change for the festive menu...
