I've been coming along to a few of the open-mic gigs and comedy nights here for a while now. The decor downstairs has slowly changed with every visit. It's looking nice now, red walls and candles giving it a proper jazz club vibe. Looking forward to the summer again when the garden gets packed, got some great memories from last year spending days in the sun out there with a few jugs of Pimms. And ladies. Jugs of ladies.

Ryans has a great beer garden, and occasionally some events that are well worth checking out. It's true that it doesn't quite capture the ideal atmosphere like some of the cosier, or more buzzing pubs and bars in Stoke Newington, but it has a wide selection of drinks and a friendly owner, and the food is yummy.
Ryans is a good stop off point when it's empty. Food has been nice when I've eaten there and beer is about average in Stokey. I've been to many events down stairs in Ryans and haven't much enjoyed them at all. The downstairs needs serious work. I don't go there often and there's a reason for that, but I wouldn't tell people to avoid it. However I don't recommend it either.
i've always enjoyed ryan's. alot smaller than the neighbouring pubs, but has a beer garden to beat them all. havent had the food for a while but remember being pleasently suprised by the simple thai menu. usually not too busy, its great to get a seat, watch the footie and drink reasonable priced drinks. of course summer is when it really draws in the customers for the garden, and there's not much fancy decor but if you're lookin for bit of calm simplicity i'd recommend ryan's.
I used to hate this place, but in fact it's getting better. It's a cross between a Thai restaurant and a local pub, with plenty of seating and a decent beer garden. There's a downstairs too, though I haven't been there for years so won't comment on what it's like now. The staff are really friendly and it's very mellow in here. I didn't taste the food but it looks good and the waiting times for take away were really quick so it's convenient if you're in a rush.

Ryans is more of like a halfway house – there’s always a bit of a weird bunch. It doesn’t quite seem to know what it is yet: whether it’s a football pub or a music venue. They show the football but you struggle to get a good view point as there’s only three TVs and a lot of people in the way. However the food is good and reasonably prices. They do really nice Thai, especially the Thai Green Curry. It’s always clean in here. The staff are efficient but not friendly and there’s sometimes quite a tense combination of customers. The beer garden isn’t the best, but it is big so it’s good in the summer when things get packed out.
