Alistair's N16

Alistair's is really good. It's easily missed amongst the millions of shops and cafes and restaurants on Church Street but this is definitely one to look out for. Cosy atmosphere and really friendly staff, as well as great food. It's not cheap but it's great value for what it is.

    Perfect food

I've been to Alistair's twice now and had great meals both times. The food is always cooked to perfection and they have a pretty good wine list too. I like that the mains aren't massive because the food can be quite rich, in a good way! As someone who can't eat wheat or dairy, I tend to not bother looking at dessert menus but was pleasantly surprised to find that they had a couple of suitable options, including four scoops of the best coconut sorbet!

You have to try Alistair's icecream!!!

Went here today after hearing good things about it. It was surprisingly busy for a Thursday night, but we got a seat no problem even though we hadn't booked. The service was friendly and they were patient enough to wait for us to chat away for ages before we even glanced at the menu. In the end I ordered venison with celleriac (easier to eat than to spell) and then for afters a contreau (definately easier to drink than spell) and chocolate ganache with icecream. The main was tasty and the meat was lovely and pink with just enough veg to fill you up without overdoing it. The dessert however, stole my heart. More precisely the icecream which was just so delicious. i'm not usually an icecream girl but this was perfect and went really well with the rich ganache. Two of us with one main, one dessert and one drink each came to about £45. Not the cheapest place on Church Street, but probably one of the nicest, certainly with the most interesting menu. Try it if you like inventive, home cooked british cuisine and good service.
