Having just moved to Newington Green (from just up the road) I thought I'd try popping out for dinner somewhere even more local than the Stokey/Dalston haunts I usually frequent. Although I'd walked past Fifty Six for years, for some reason it had never occurred to me to go in, and can I just say how disappointed I am with myself that I'd never been adventurous enough in the past! The service was friendly and attentive, our courses arrived promptly and the food was delicious and reasonably priced - I would absolutely recommend the lamb, which was a pleasure to eat from start to finish (£9.50, I think). After a starter and a main each, we were so stuffed we decided not to even attempt pudding! I will definitely be going back.

ReportA real lovely place. Been there many times and it's never let me down, whether it's been for family meals, birthday parties, dinner for two, three or four; it's 56! Whilst it can slip off my radar from time to time. When reminded of it as I was today, the urge to go again is there! Lovely food and environment for a pleasant evening. I love 56's dinning experience so far! My only gripe and there's only one is that on occasion I've found it hard to communicate with staff. Ordering red wine and receiving white didn't bother my company but I wasn't impressed. It was dealt with perfectly well and simply added to the nights banter. It's a cert, for a good meal and an ideal dating location!
