Yumyum Thai in Stoke Newington

It's pretty obvious when you taste the food here why Yumyum has the reputation it does. Really good selection, including plenty of vegetarian stuff. I had a chicken and coconut dish, which had a bit of a kick to it and was absolutely lovely. Brocolli and ginger was yummy too, as were the stirfried vegetables, and the squid. Good desserts, which I find unusual for Thai restaurantd generally. This isn't cheap thai, but it's reasonable for what it is. And the setting is good for big groups. I wouldnt pick it out for an intimate meal and I'm not sure the acounstics make for a snug supper, but there were plenty of parties and dates alongside each other, and all seemed happy. Nice function room too, good toilets and a pleasant outdoor bit in the front. Stupidly easy to get to by public transport.

Mixed experiences but I would still eat there!

Yum Yum’s is a lavish and grand fronted place, and the interior is no different! Whether its a few cocktails at their bar or a delightful meal it’s a great place to check out. The food is delicious, a great menu and the surroundings impressive and to try on the first date it’s a great little choice. (Although it can get loud) I have recommended it to a few people over the years who’ve come back with tales of great nights. The only down falls to this place from what I've heard and seen myself is the manner of the waiters. Almost the most important part other than the food is the service. It’s a large venue and they often seem rushed, abrupt and make mistakes in the order. It’s not a cheap night out, particularly if you’re a heavy eater like me so for the price you pay the service should be good and this has let me down in the past. Since it is such a good party venue, the noise can also be an issue if you want a quiet bite this really isn't the place. For these reasons I’ve had to drop what would otherwise be a five star dining experience into a 4 star rating bumping. Whilst Yum yums for me, is neither a solo dining experience, nor a cheap venue to sling the banter with old mates. For those big lavish parties that I do know go on; It’s a great place!
Their Happy hour is a great move too!

    Massive restaurant

Massive massive venue. Really nice, elegant décor – big open space, lots of fabrics and a nice courtyard entrance with fountain. Nice friendly staff, but don’t be surprised if you have to wait a while to be served because it is such a big restaurant and can get very busy. I really like the food – I’ve heard some people say they don’t like it, but to me it’s really good. The massam (don’t know how to spell it!) curry is a must, and the cocktail bar downstairs has a good choice of drinks and some nice little cheeky deals. Good place to start your night. It is a bit pricey but you will leave full and happy.

    Om nom nom more like

Had dinner at Yum Yum last night after hunger forced us to duck out of a comedy evening at Pangea Project just up the road. I couldn't agree more with what's been said before about the place - the rice was sticky and fragrant, the main courses suble but spicy and the Mekhong whisky added a welcome, authentic touch to the meal. Five out of five.

    Yummy!

Had the most fantastic evening here last night. I made a reservation for 2 on a Thursday evening and it was perfect from start to finish. Set back from the high street on a lovely paved little courtyard with Thai wooden pagodas that would be lovely on a warm evening (it was pouring with rain on this occasion unfortunately!), Yums Yums inviting neon pink sign promises a lot and it delivers.

On arrival we were greeted at reception, relieved of our soggy coats and led to the bar where you can choose from a menu of tempting cocktails while your table is being prepared. We ordered a very nice bottle of Sauvignon Blanc that was served in an ice bucket and carried over to our table for us when we were seated.

The waiter was very attentive but did no rush us as we were chatting for quite some time before looking at the menu, eventually for ease we ordered the set menu for 2 which comprised of a lovely array of starters served with dipping sauces, followed by Thai green curry (one of my all time favourites) and deep fried fish with chilli and coconut that was one of the nicest dishes I have ever eaten!

When we left the manager personally came over and asked us how we enjoyed our meal, and then brought us complimentary hazelnut liquor! And to top it off, when we left the restaurant it had stopped raining. Perfect!
