Hackney Council is asking residents and service users to give their opinion on its Equalities Policy over the next few weeks. The policy relates to the measuring of equality in the borough, and is linked to the Sustainable Community Strategy, both of which seek to improve opportunities and increase equality prosperity for stakeholders in Hackney.

The following three objectives are up for discussion as part of the review of the Equalities Policy, which has to be finalised by April:

"1. Identify, prioritise and deliver actions which aim to narrow the gap in outcomes between certain disadvantaged groups and the wider community.

"2. Improve service design, delivery and access by improving the way we engage with communities, use customers' feedback and develop our knowledge and understanding of our communities.

"3. Foster good relations by promoting greater awareness and understanding between our communities."

Cllr Sophie Linden, Hackney Council Cabinet Member for Crime, Sustainability and Customer Services explained, "This consultation is an important part of the development of a policy that will be used to advance equalities across the Council for al disadvantaged groups. We want to hear the views of as many individuals and community groups as possible."

The consultation will run until Wednesday February 22nd and more information can be found at www.hackney.gov.uk/equalities-objectives or on email at equalities@hackney.gov.uk
